Mangawhai Heads Surf School runs daily lessons catered for most age groups from beginner to intermediate level. You don’t need experience to learn to surf, nor do you need to be able to swim. Jump in with our beginners lessons where you’ll start off in waist-deep water.
All lessons take two hours with a qualified instructor, and boards and wetsuits are included. The beach offers good parking just 50m from our base, plus toilets, showers and changing facilities.
You should be comfortable in waist-to-chest-deep water. Beginner lessons stay in the shallows and an instructor is in the water with you the whole time.
Group lessons suit all ages and abilities from six years old – kids, teens and adults learn together. For younger kids, our school holiday programmes and summer surf camps are built just for them.
No, every lesson includes a surfboard and wetsuit. Just bring togs, a towel and sunscreen.
Yes. Mangawhai Heads works year-round and our winter wetsuits keep you warm. Smaller crowds, often better waves.
